We’re still neck-and-neck for the Whiskey Cup. Unfortunately, last week we picked the same, and as such there was no movement for either of us. Trent’s picks aren’t up yet, so I have no idea what his thoughts are. For my part, I’m doing a bit of dice-rollin’ this week.
Trent last week: 4-2 (.600)
Nate last week: 4-2 (.600)
Trent overall: 50-21 (.704)
Nate overall: 49-22 (.690)
No. 6 Oklahoma 30, Kansas 33. Do I want to do this? Yes. I think so. Do I believe this? Yeah, I kind of do. Actually, no, even though I’d enjoy the hell out of it: I’d rather OU get a scare here, but be undefeated going into Bedlam. Kansas hasn’t beaten Oklahoma since winning three straight from 1995-1997. Since this may be the last time I write about this series, I want to note this year as I always do that KU once beat OU eight times in a row. Of course, that streak began in 1903, on the occasion of the Jayhawks’ and Sooners’ first meeting. 120 years later, I’m predicting the Jayhawks’ start a new streak of one.
Houston 27, Kansas State 37. Dana Holgorsen’s squad showed serious heart against Texas last week: only a truly horrendous bad spot robbed them of a chance to tie the game.
West Virginia 17, UCF 20. Both of teams are coming off of tough losses at the hands of the Oklahoma schools. Ultimately, I think UCF looked a little better, and it has the benefit of playing at home.
BYU 25, No. 7 Texas 35. Quinn Ewers being knocked out of this game adds some interest, as does the fact that BYU is 4-1 all-time against Texas, including back-to-back wins in 2013-2014. I’m betting on another uncomfortably close call for the Longhorns.
Iowa State 28, Baylor 14. The last four games between these two have been decided by one score or less. These Bears are pretty hapless, though.
Cincinnati 17, Oklahoma State 34. The Pokes are favored only by just over a touchdown, perhaps a sign that Vegas sees a potential pre-Bedlam trap here for OSU. If this were post-Bedlam, I’d have to agree, as Gundy’s teams often seem hungover the week after the OU game. With the way OSU’s been playing, with Ollie Gordon II running over everyone who crosses his path, I’d say not this week. This is the fourth all-time meeting between these two, though they haven’t met since a Jimmy Johnson-led bunch of Cowboys beat the Bearcats 27-17 in Cincy.
