Was I upset about the spot in Ames? No, I wasn’t upset about the spot in Ames. Would I have liked it to be more favorable to the Pokes? Of course. It looked like a call that could go either way, and it did—ISU’s. I will say that the officiating throughout the game was some of the worst I’ve seen in a long time. The spot paled in comparison to Iowa State getting an entire touchdown taken off the board.
Last week: 2-2 (.500)
Overall: 39-12 (.764)
Texas 42, No. 16 Baylor 45. Both of these teams are coming off a by-week—but such different by-weeks: Baylor after a convincing win over a ranked BYU team, and Texas after consecutive losses to the schools on the other side of the Red River. At 6-1 the Bears are still in the conference title hunt. Texas owns the all-time series between these two to the tune of 79-27-4.
No. 22 Iowa State 26, West Virginia 20. ISU looked like everyone thought they would look before the season started against the Pokes. A fantastic win for Matt Campbell’s program, and a huge step toward making an appearance in the conference title game—provided ISU wins out, and OSU stumbles again.
Texas Tech 24, No. 4 Oklahoma 49. Who had the worse week: Texas Tech, who lost by one last week to K-State and whose coach, Matt Wells, found himself without a job afterward, or OU, who trailed Kansas in the fourth quarter last week in Lawrence? Hard to say.
TCU 27, Kansas State 31. Prediction: if TCU fails to win this one, the Frogs, who still have OSU, Baylor, and ISU on the schedule, ain’t going bowling this year. How long does Gary Patterson have?
Kansas 12, No. 15 Oklahoma State 35. Why on earth is this game in the prime-time slot? It makes about as much sense as KU being up ten last week on OU at the half (which was delightful, by the way). This, the 73rd meeting between these two teams, on homecoming, is OSU’s best chance to break 40; we’ll see if the Cowboys manage it.
